Tips to Avoid Delays

📋
Submit a complete application

The #1 cause of delays is incomplete applications. Missing documents trigger Requests for Evidence (RFE) that can add months. ICL reviews every application before submission.

🩺
Book medicals early

Immigration medical exams (IME) can take weeks to schedule in some cities. Book as soon as you know you need them. Results are valid for 12 months.

🔵
Update your biometrics

Biometrics are valid for 10 years. Confirm yours are current before applying. Expired biometrics are a common, preventable delay.

📨
Check your IRCC account daily

IRCC sends requests for additional information through your online account. Missing a deadline can pause or cancel your application.

📅
Apply early - don't wait

Processing times are estimates. Some cases take longer. Apply as early as possible, especially for study permits and PR renewals.

🏠
Maintain valid status at all times

If you're in Canada, never let your status expire. Implied status only works if you applied to extend BEFORE your current status expired.
